Nakshatras (Lunar Constellations)

Ancient hindu sages divided Zodiacs into 27 Nakshatras or Lunar constellations. These are the mansions of the Moon, as Moon resides in each of these Nakshatras during its transit cycle. Each Nakshatra is of 13 degrees 20 minutes and have a Lord and a Deity associated with it.

While analyzing the horoscope, we must see the Nakshatra and its lord in which the planets are posited. Each Nakshatra has its unique properties, which gives indication of the kind of outcome expected from an event related to the planet.

Nakshatra of Moon is of very high importance as the lord of this Nakshatra is first Vimshottari Mahadasha of the native, and rest of the Mahadashas follows in sequence as explained in Dasha section.

Rohini, Uttaraphalguni, Uttarasadha, and Uttarabhadrapada are fixed constellations and are favorable for the work related to permanent nature for example laying the foundation of a house, etc

Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, and Revati are gentle nakshatras good for fine arts, learning, making friendships, sensual pleasures etc.

Ashvini, Pushya, and Hasta are light nakshatras and are good for sports, enjoying items of luxury, skilled labour, starting education, etc


Ardra, Ashlesa, Jyestha, and Mula are harsh nakshatras and implies for success in wars, imprisonment, separations, acts of destruction, and the breaking of partnership, etc.

Purnavasu, Swati, Saravana, Dhanistha, and Shatabhisa are movable nakshatras which are for travel, enjoying conveyances, and indicated anything which is not permanent.

Bharani, Magha, Purvaphalguni, Purvasadha, and Purvabhadrapada are cruel nakshatras and indicates evil deeds, deceit and disputes, acts of destruction, etc.

Krtttika and Visakha are mixed nakshatras and good for routine duties, professional responsibilities, and day-to-day activities.
