Karma and You

Karma and You

Karma essentially means Action. It is originated from Sanskrit word ‘Kri’, which means ‘To Do’. In the context of Human life, it is said that humans create Karma by four ways:

  1. Thoughts

  2. Speech

  3. Actions

  4. Influence

As per Vedic Texts, humans take birth multiple times till they burn the debts of their past lives bad Karma. During a lifetime, we pay debts of some of these acquired Karma, but during the process we acquire more Karma, good and bad both, and since we acquire bad Karma also, the cycle of rebirth doesn’t come to an end.

The Karma can be divided into 3 categories as follows:

  1. Sanchit Karma: This is the full account of your Karma (karmic debts) from previous lives.

  2. Prarabdha Karma: Those Karma which you have agreed to pay in this lifetime, basically the reason of your current birth.

  3. Kriyamana Karma: New Karma that you create with your Thoughts, Speech, Actions and Influence in current birth.

Ketu is the planet which holds the account of our past lives’ baggage of Karma, while Saturn is the planet which ensures that you pay the karmic debts. Degree of the 9 planets in your horoscope indicates the karmic debts you must pay in this lifetime to the relations indicated by those planets. Our current life sufferings indicate the amount of karmic debts that we have. With our Kriyamana Karma, we prepare ground for our next life. Bad karma will give poor life and sorrow, while good Karma lays the foundation of a happy and successful life. All Karma do not give punishment/rewards instantly, but they are sure to bear results in the long run.

Our Thoughts, Words, Actions and Influence should be such that we do not create bad Karma in current life. Past and current lives bad karmas are punished and good karmas are rewarded for sure. Both are separate buckets, you can not do good karma in the hope that it will compensate for your bad karma.
