Story of Dronacharya - Dronacharya was the chief trainer of weaponry to the Kauravas and Pandavas. He was a master of advanced weapon arts. He was son of Bharadwaja rishi and spent his childhood in his ashram. He was trained in weaponry like a Kshtriya, despite being a brahmin by birth. He fathered a son and named him Ashwatthama. He was betrayed by his friend Drupada. Who had promised him help, whenever he needed it. But when approached for the same, he was insulted by him.

There is a very well known story of Droacharya and Eklavya. Eklavya was a person of Bhil tribe. He wanted to learn archery from Dronacharya. However, Dronacharya was committed to teaching weaponry only to Kshtriyas. Therefore, he refused him. But Eklavya being undeterred in his commitment, made a clay effigy of Dronacharya and started practicing archery, drawing inspiration from the idol. He gained great perfection in the art and was unparalleled in it. On seeing this, Dronacharya demanded his right thumb as gurudakshina (payment to teacher). Thus, making him incapable of practicing archery.

Dronacharya was also responsible for laying out the Chakravyuh, which led to the death of Abhimanyu (Son of Arjun). Arjun being Dronacharya’s favourite disciple. He was severely criticised for the same.

Knowing it would be impossible to defeat an armed Dronacharya, Krishna suggested to the Pandavas a plan to disarm their teacher. His idea was that Bhima first kill an elephant named Ashwatthama, and then claim to Dronacharya that he has killed Dronacharya's son with the same name. After killing the elephant, Bhima loudly proclaimed that he had killed "Ashwatthama". On hearing this news Dronacharya was heart broken. Dronacharya descended from his chariot, laid down his arms and sat in meditation. Pandavas wanted to use this opportunity to arrest him, but enraged by the death of his father and several Panchala warriors, Dhrishtadyumna took this opportunity and beheaded him. Thus, he suffered a lot due to miscommunication.
